14.00 – 14.30 Pollution Prevention
Environment Agency
Businesses and individuals are responsible for complying with environmental regulations and for preventing pollution. Many thousands of pollution incidents occur each year, originating from factories, farms, transport activities and even homes. Each incident is an offense and can result in prosecution as well as environmental damage. However, most cases are avoidable, given careful planning of operations, responsible waste management and suitable facilities to reduce the risk of spillage – along with simple precautions to deal with any spillages, in case they occur.
Learn how to help your business avoid and deal with pollution incidents using our 10 point checklist, our “Pollution Prevention Pays” pack and our Pollution Prevention Guidelines.

14.45 – 15.15 The Dark Arts
Elizabeth Edgington, Head of Marketplace Sustainability, Business In The Community
Gathering data on environmental and sustainability impacts, benchmarking yourself and reporting to third parties is part and parcel of green change projects. Pulling together data and compiling reports is often an onerous job. Doing it very well is something of a dark art. But good data drives improvement projects. Well-set benchmarks can make the difference. Reporting is your chance to stand up and be noticed.
Come to this session and you’ll leave with a wealth of ideas (some of them may be devious) for using data and benchmarking to drive performance improvements and move sustainability up the corporate agenda.
