8.30 Pollution Prevention – Dave Preston, Environment Agency Yorkshire, Environment Officer
Businesses and individuals are responsible for complying with environmental regulations and for preventing pollution. Many thousands of pollution incidents occur each year, originating from factories, farms, transport activities and even homes. Each incident is an offense and can result in prosecution as well as environmental damage. However, most cases are avoidable, given careful planning of operations, responsible waste management and suitable facilities to reduce the risk of spillage – along with simple precautions to deal with any spillages, in case they occur.
Learn how to help your business avoid and deal with pollution incidents using our 10 point checklist, our “Pollution Prevention Pays” pack and our Pollution Prevention Guidelines.

14.30 Doing business in a circular economy – Professor Peter Hopkinson, University of Bradford
Imagine a world where resources are continually cycled …..
Our Traditional linear consumption pattern (take-make-dispose) is facing multiple pressures on resource availability. The circular economy (CE) is a framework which could transform the use of resources in the economy. Waste would become a valuable input to another process – and products could be repaired, reused or upgraded instead of thrown away. In a world of high and volatile resource prices, CE thinking offers huge business opportunities.
Come along to this seminar to find out how to unlock the true business potential of a circular economy.
Professor Peter Hopkinson is Director of the new £6M re:centre at the University of Bradford within which he will also direct a new centre for the circular economy. Peter has led the UoB academic partnership with the Ellen McArthur Foundation to develop Circular Economy thinking since 2009. Peter will draw on this wide range of experience in his presentation to demonstrate both the big picture and also practical business cases.
